As a new member of the Young Co-operators Network, Marta shares a few reasons why she has joined the network and how it gives all young people a voice within the Society.
Name: Marta Kiedrowska
Job Title: Team Leader
Location/Site: Broadway in the Cotswolds
Length of time at Midcounties: 1 year at Midcounties, 7 years at this site (previously known as Warner's Budgens)
Tell us a little about yourself?
My job role includes a bit of everything, from looking after the fresh department to being shift responsible for helping out with small daily jobs. I'm ambitious as well as hard-working and so hope to progress to become a Team Manager in the near future. In my spare time, I enjoy playing games, listening to music, watching movies and baking.
For what reasons did you join the Young Co-operators Network?
I joined the network as I was interested to hear other young people's opinions and thoughts but also to contribute my own ideas to the group. The network provides a great platform in which we can have a say and express our opinions with like-minded young people. There are monthly competitions which I was lucky to be the recipient of over Christmas. The network also provides helpful tips for developing your employability skill set.
What else do you think Midcounties could do to involve and engage young people?
I think Midcounties are already doing a great job at involving and engaging young people. The use of competitions and surveys is a good way of getting young people's attention and involvement. Raising awareness of their campaigns are also great to engage young people in various topics such as the New Year’s Environmental campaign and most recently personal mental health wellbeing.
You mentioned the New Year’s Environmental Campaign, what’s your New Year’s Environmental pledge for 2021?
I have a couple of New Year’s Environmental pledges for 2021. One is to walk more as I feel I rely on my car far too much, even for short journeys. I enjoy walks with my partner so this one should be quite easy. My second pledge, slightly more difficult for me, is to eat less meat and more plant-based meals. As much as I like veggies and fruits, my diet still consists of a lot of meat products, so I hope to change that this year. I would encourage all young people to get involved in the Carbon Footprint Campaign as together we can make a difference and build a better world.
You can do this by clicking here.
Firstly, you'll need to work out what your current carbon footprint is before you can figure out what pledge you should make to reduce your footprint. Once you've decided what your 1Change pledge is, just complete the simple form by 31st January and you'll be entered into the prize draw to win a 'Zero Waste Starter Kit'!
