Colleague Personal Trading Policy
Last Updated 21 Mar 2017 in Business Conduct
Overview
Colleagues aren’t allowed to sell or promote their own products and services while in the workplace, even during breaks. This policy contains more information about personal trading at work.
Key points covered:
- Examples of activities you should not undertake at work
- What happens if you don’t comply with this policy
The Society is committed to ensuring that colleagues’ workplaces are free from solicitation and distribution relating to personal business sales.
Solicitation and distribution relating to personal business sales is defined as any proposal to sell, and facilitating the sale of goods or services, and any activity which attempts to raise funds or donations for any entity other than the Society. In simple terms, colleagues are not permitted to sell and distribute any non-work related materials either during work time (which includes paid or unpaid breaks) or in work areas, unless pre-agreed with your Line Manager in line with the Society Volunteering and Colleague Fundraising Policies.
Example of prohibited activities include, but are not limited to:
-
Cosmetic or jewellery sales,
-
Cake sales,
-
Sales of items to raise funds for organisations or entities other than The Midcounties Co-operative, and
-
Commercial or personal business sales.
In order to prevent disruption to the Society’s operations, interference with work, and inconvenience to other colleagues, colleagues may not engage in solicitation or distribution relating to personal business sales of any kind during working time or in work areas.
Posting on local noticeboards or the Intranet Bulletin should be pre-agreed, in advance, with your Line Manager. Any exceptions to these rules can only be agreed by the Group General Manager. Failing to comply with this policy is likely to result in disciplinary action being taken against the colleague
