Site Finder Policy

Overview
We are always on the lookout for new sites for our trading groups. If you spot a site that you think would be perfect for a Midcounties branch let us know and you could receive a payment if we end up using that site.
Key points covered:
-
The kinds of properties/opportunities we’re looking for
-
How to inform the Society of the site
-
How payments are made and the terms and conditions relating to these
As a growing Society that is continually considering new sites and development opportunities for our Trading Groups, we actively encourage our colleagues to get involved in identifying expansion opportunities for the Midcounties Co-operative. To this end, the Society encourages colleagues to tell us about potential sites they are aware of. This policy provides the framework and processes for making such recommendations and further details how colleagues will be rewarded if the acquisition is successful.
This policy applies to all colleagues; full-time and part-time colleagues on a permanent or fixed-term contract at The Midcounties Co-operative with the exception of the Executive, Property Acquisitions Team and Property Management Team who undertake such activity as part of their role within the Society. This policy also does not apply to agency staff or contractors.
Process
For the purpose of this policy, colleagues may suggest any vacant areas of land or buildings no longer in use that could be utilised or converted as a Society Trading unit, or alternatively provide details of an independent retailer or business who may wish to sell or dispose of their business. For example colleagues could consider:
-
Pubs
-
Restaurants
-
Plots of land
-
Old disused community facilities (leisure centre, school playing field, social club, car park etc.)
-
A local independent business that may be looking to sell
This list above is not exhaustive and the Society will consider all recommendations from colleagues.
Colleagues should not approach any persons at the site to discuss any interest on the Society’s behalf. If you identify a site that you believe would be suitable, you should email or write to the Property Acquisitions Team with the following information:
-
Address of the site (required)
-
Photograph (optional)
-
Any history of the site or area worth noting (optional)
The Property Acquisitions Team will notify you within 28 days of receiving your suggestion as to whether the site will be pursued or not, and will provide a reason why in the case that the Society decides not to.
Payments
Where the Society has decided to pursue a site that you have recommended and the acquisition of the site has been successful, colleagues will be awarded with a £500 payment subject to meeting the terms and conditions outlined below. There is no limit to the number of sites you can suggest.
The Property Acquisitions Team will notify you when the site has been acquired and will arrange in conjunction with HR and Payroll for the payment to be made in your next 4 weekly pay.
Terms and Conditions
-
The £500 payment can be withheld if a colleague is pending any investigation, disciplinary or performance procedures.
-
This scheme is not part of your terms and conditions and can be changed or amended by the Midcounties Co-operative at any time.
-
Tax and/or national insurance contributions may be payable to the Inland Revenue in respect of any payments you receive. Payments are therefore made via the payroll with your 4 weekly pay.
-
If your employment with the Society ends for any reason before the payment is due, then no payment will be made.
Additional Support
If you have any queries about this policy and require further guidance on the process or payment please contact your HR Advisor or Payroll Administrator respectively.
