Women who made a difference in 2022/23
Jacinda Arden – Jacinda Arden has shown the world how strong and powerful female leadership can be, from delivering a world-leading COVID response, to speaking out on racial, environmental, and democratic issues, there was no stone left unturned in her leadership. At the end of January 2023 Jacinda announced her resignation from the role as prime minister of New Zealand, self-aware enough to recognise that she was suffering from burnout. A humbling moment, yet empowering, helping us all realise that we are all human.
Rihanna – Rihanna has always been an ambassador and a strong female role model, unsurprisingly her recent Super Bowl half-time performance was no change from her usual role modelling, performing at arguably one of the largest shows of the year whilst simultaneously announcing her pregnancy on stage. A high intensity performance, doing what she does best, whilst pregnant. Rihanna shows some true strength and resilience, landing the message that women really can do anything.
Greta Thunberg - Greta, named the Times youngest ever ‘person of the year’, she is one of the most famous faces on the planet due to her environmental activism. Greta continually speaks up for the younger generation and the environmental struggles they will face in the future, and has also gained multiple nominations for Nobel peace prizes.
Ursula Von Der Leyen – Ursula is the first woman to serve as Germanys minister of defence and currently sits as the president of the European Commission, she has led a robust battle in support of Ukraine over the past year, driving the EU in support of president Zelenskyy.
Ketanji Brown Jackson – Ketanji is the first black female to become a US supreme court justice. She was sworn into the US senate in April 2022. This is the highest Judicial body in the USA, and Ketanji is paving the way for people of colour and females.
