Want a healthier 2020? Do you also want 15% off Co-op Pharmacy products and the chance to win £250 in food or travel vouchers? Find out how below.
There are lots of simple budget-friendly things you can do to give a boost to your body and mind. Here are a few ways to get your 2020 off to a healthy start!
Food
Eating a better diet means getting better fuel into your body – and it doesn’t have to be complicated or pricy. You can:
-
Buy wholegrain bread, pasta, or rice instead of the white kinds
-
Bulk out meals with more tinned or fresh veg
-
Choose healthy snacks like nuts or sultanas, and not crisps or chocolate
-
Embrace Veganuary and try Co-op Food’s new plant-based range of food
Sleep
Getting a good night’s sleep is as important as exercise and a healthy diet. It improves your focus and boosts your immune system and mood.
If you sometimes struggle to get enough sleep, you can try to:
-
Get into the habit of going to bed and waking up at a similar time each day
-
Reduce how much you use your TV, computer, tablet or smartphone during the last two hours you are awake
-
Relax and clear your mind in the evening by reading, listening to calm music, taking a hot bath or shower or even meditating
-
If snoring is affecting your sleep, you could try our new product. The Good Night Ring is worn on your finger and stops you snoring. It even has a money-back guarantee.
Smoking
Smoking is one of the biggest causes of poor health in the UK. Cutting down or quitting can help you breathe more easily, reduce the risk of many serious diseases, and offer lots of other benefits too.
If you would like to kick the habit in 2020, you can:
-
Try nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) such as gum, lozenges and patches
-
Attempt cold turkey – but according to the NHS, only 3 out of 100 smokers to try to quit this way succeed
-
Try non-NRT stop smoking treatments, which block the pleasurable effects of smoking
Exercise
If your New Year’s resolution is to exercise more, starting off with small changes can help you keep going throughout the year.
Why not try to:
-
Take the stairs instead of lifts or escalators
-
Take a walk during each lunch break
-
Start every day (or every other day) with some quick exercise before breakfast
Short on time? These 10-minute workouts from the NHS are ideal!
Alcohol
The NHS says that regularly drinking more than 14 units of alcohol in a week can put your health at risk. It’s not just your body that alcohol can damage, but also your bank account.
Even if you haven’t started Dry January, you can still:
-
Make sure you have alcohol-free days each week
-
Offer to be the designated driver more often
-
Join a growing trend of alcohol-free drinkers, which saw non-alcoholic beer sales in the UK rise by 58% last summer
