Today we are highlighting colleagues from the Leamington & Warwick Regional Community who will be taking on the Welsh Three Peaks in May. Fundraising for their RC partner, Guys Gift, they need your support!
Who are we doing it for?
Guy's Gift is a charity based in Warwick that supports thousands of children and young people across Coventry and Warwickshire.
Each year they work with 300+ children and young people providing tailored bereavement support meaning that everyone will get the support in a way that works for them, this could be;
-
One to One Counselling and support
-
Group Support
-
Advice and Guidance
We are super confident that our challenge will raise much-needed money to help and support the really important work that the charity does every year. We’re so proud to be at the heart of our communities, supporting local people and projects.
Guy's Gift is also the dedicated Leamington and Warwick Regional Community Partner who we have been supporting for the last few years.
What does the challenge consist of? HR Advisor, Laura Stewart-Hammond tells us a little more:
Welsh Three Peaks is our mission - we will be starting at Snowdon on 18 May 2022, from here we will be up and down at lightning speed before travelling to Cadair Idris and then finish the challenge at Pen-y-Fan. Three mountains, walking a total of 17 miles with a view to completing the challenge in less than 24 hours.
Who’s taking part?
Our team is made up of colleagues from HR consisting of Laura Stewart-Hammond, Nick Porter, Kate Lamb, Kerry Wilkins, Dan Burford, Andrea Scales, Susan Barguss and Clare Ball.

I’m taking part to challenge myself whilst raising money for a great cause, one that has helped members of my family in the past.
I’ve always enjoyed walking, but found a real passion for it throughout lockdown.
Myself, my sister, brother in law & my husband, have been taking on the Wainwright fells in the lakes for the last couple of years so hopefully that’ll stand in good stead for this challenge!

I was on maternity leave when this challenge opportunity was introduced and I immediately felt inspired to sign up. I have completed a few amazing treks but have always said I would like to do Snowdon. So why not do the Welsh Three Peaks! We are doing it to raise money for an amazing local Charity who support thousands of children and young people through the grieving process.
A family very close to me attend the Guy’s Gift charity lantern walk every year, which they love as they get to remember and spend time thinking about their loved one who has died, and they also spend time with other children who have a special someone that isn’t with them. So if we can raise money to help Guys Gift continue to grow the services and support they offer this will be fantastic.

This is an amazing, challenging opportunity to work closely with my teammates to raise much needed funds for the fantastic work that Guy's Gift do every day – a day’s exciting adventure with a power of emotion but all for one very important charity – I really can’t wait to put my training into action!

This is a challenge I’ve wanted to do for a long time and it’s great that I’m able to share this with my team, but more importantly use the opportunity to raise funds for a well-deserved charity partner which I know will help make a difference in providing bereavement support for children, young people and their families across Coventry and Warwickshire.

I’m really looking forward to climbing the Welsh Three Peaks after missing out on Snowdon last year due to a weather warning! Don’t get me wrong, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t apprehensive about how much of a challenge it will be and I seriously need to ramp up my training but I do know that I’m doing it with the best team and if anyone can get me through it, they can!
We are really lucky to have the opportunity to do this as part of our volunteering hours at Midcounties and to raise funds for Guy’s Gift who do incredibly amazing work with young people and their families at such a difficult and distressing time in their lives. So as I put more plasters on my feet and drag on my walking boots to venture out on another cold and wet winter’s day, I will remember just how lucky I am and how many cakes I can eat because I am “in training” and need the extra calories!

I have taken on this challenge to help an amazing charity and because it is way out of my comfort zone especially as I find walking up the stairs in Warwick Head Office a challenge!! I love walking and even more so now I have our gorgeous fur baby to keep me company but the furthest I have walked is about 5 miles. My motivation will be the money that we raise for Guy's Gift, the brilliant team I am doing it with, and I am hoping for some lovely scenery!
