We’re now into the second week of Community Energy Fortnight, an opportunity to champion the fairer, greener, and cleaner power produced by community energy and all those involved in the sector.
Younity, our joint venture with Octopus Energy, has been making strides in community energy spaces since 2019 and this week we’re showcasing Community Energy Connect.
The free platform pairs community energy groups in need of some extra support with volunteers who are keen to break into the field and offer their own personal expertise as a helping hand – whether this be sharing financial advice to help manage profits, marketing insights to spread the word, law or even events.
Find out more about it here.

To date, Community Energy Connect has received over 250 registrations from community energy groups and volunteers, demonstrating the power of co-operation and doing good together.
This includes Sarah, a lawyer and volunteer who joined the Community Energy Connect platform and, with the support of Younity, took things one step further by establishing another group based in Barnet, North London.

Sarah said: “Younity's Community Energy Connect platform opened the door to a whole new (and big!) opportunity for me. Unfamiliar with community energy, but impressed by its vision and innovation, I joined the platform out of interest.
“A lovely, friendly member of the Younity team called me back quickly and she put me in touch with the nearest community energy group to me. Through this group, I was soon introduced to a whole network of people working in community energy, who helped me identify a need for a group to serve Barnet.
“With their support and encouragement, this led me on a journey to starting 'Community Energy Barnet', a brand-new community benefit society with big ambitions to cover the rooftops of Barnet with solar panels. Thank you Younity!"

Through Community Energy Connect and the other amazing work Younity does, we’re now supporting over 400 community energy projects, equating to more than a third of the sector. Delivered through 120 energy generators, their projects produce enough power for more than 65,000 homes.
And as well as all of this, we’re proud to be the only energy provider offering 100% community-generated electricity through Your Co-op Energy Community Power Tariff.
We couldn’t achieve what we do in the community energy sector without the support of our colleagues and members and we’d like to say a special thank you to each and every one of you this Community Energy Fortnight and always.
