What a Jubilee celebration it was! Did you know during the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II celebrations, we gave out £18,500 of funds to our local communities? Have a look at some of the fantastic communities and charity partners we were involved with.
Community-led celebrations
Opened to all members, Local Community Grant Funding gave the opportunity for members to apply for up to £150 of funding to focus on supporting events linking to local community-led celebrations.
The fund was a big success with over 120 applications distributing £18,500 in Your Co-op Vouchers. They went towards providing refreshments for localised activities such as cultural events, street parties, picnics and community celebrations in support of the nationwide Jubilee celebrations over the Bank Holiday weekend.
We were so delighted to support many of our local communities, members and colleagues during the celebrations, which helped bring people and groups together locally.
Wrockwardine Wood and Trench Social Club celebrations
Our colleague from Trench Food, Lynda Wynne reached out and applied for the Jubilee grant for the Wrockwardine Wood and Trench Social Club. Have a read of how the celebrations went and what they meant to the local community.
“I have been an employee at my Trench store for 20 years and have used the social club all my life. I have a lot of customers who joined the club as members where we run a Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon club for our retired members to enjoy bingo and days out. We already hold regular Saturday evening entertainment for everyone and fun days/events for all our members, so I was really happy to be awarded the grant!"
What was the donation used for?
We organised a fun day for The Queen’s Jubilee along with a children's entertainer in the day and an adult one in the evening. Alongside this, we used the Co-op vouchers to supply food and lots of goodies for the little ones to make it a memorable day!
I just want to say a huge thank you to Midcounties for the jubilee grant. I was lucky enough to be granted one to support our local community social club. As mentioned above, a lot of our customers who use the Trench Food store have now joined the club. Enjoying many activities, the help of Midcounties enabled us to put on a very enjoyable jubilee celebration. We were able to buy bunting and decorations, along with plenty of food which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. Many thanks for supporting our community and enabling us to give everyone a memorable day! 😊
