Thank you, Pay Day & Colleague Protection
Thank you
Today marks the start of the 3rd week of the UK Coronavirus lockdown and the changes that have been brought to all of us in our daily lives and working arrangements, whether customer-facing, redeployed to other areas of the business, working from home or other changes. Again, can I just say a huge thank you to every colleague at this time.
But it’s not just our thanks, we’ve had lots of compliments and praise for the work and actions of colleagues. Phil Ponsonby, Group CEO was really pleased to receive this fantastic letter of praise for our colleagues Linda and Amanda about the exceptional service she has received at Finchfield Travel. Great job!
Pay Day – Payroll
Due to the Good Friday bank holiday, payday this period falls on Thursday 9th April and your payslips will be available on the portal from the morning of Wednesday 8th April.
This pay period has seen the outbreak and impact of coronavirus on many of our colleagues, whether that be working increased hours on the front line or self-isolating as per the government guidelines.
If this has been the case for you, either overtime or statutory sick pay will be reflected in this period pay and visible on your payslip as per your contractual entitlement.
For those colleagues working in food retail who are eligible for company or statutory sick pay and have been affected by coronavirus, your sick pay entitlement will be effective from day 1 rather than day 3.
It will also reflect the change in Society policy for those colleagues with between 1 month and 2 years’ service affected by coronavirus receiving an additional week’s sick pay entitlement.
This pay period will cover all that you have worked, including any overtime, up to and including adjustment weeks.
It’s important that you review your payslips as soon as possible.
Included in April pay are your basic weeks from w/e 21st March to w/e 11th April, plus adjustment weeks from w/e 7th March – w/e 28th March.
Please note: It will not include any additional payments that have been communicated, such as the 10% bonus for customer-facing colleagues. These payments will be included next payday, which falls on Thursday 7th May 2020. Furlough payments will also be included in the May payday.

Colleague Protection
Our priority is and will remain the protection and welfare of colleagues and we are doing everything we can to ensure we continue to have appropriate supplies of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for colleagues who need them. We have many supplies that have now been delivered to sites, with more stock of gloves and facemasks arriving daily. We are focusing this week on ensuring that all these supplies are being used, all sites are following publicised procedures and policies and that compliance by all of us is key. In addition to the previously publicised measures, we have also now ensured that over the coming days we will be installing permanent customer hand sanitiser stations, which will be replenished fortnightly. The installation of protective screens continues with over half of stores now being completed the rest will be completed by this Friday.
Social distancing:
This is one of the most important areas for all of us. We have given guidance and instruction to each trading site on this already and many measures have now been taken and implemented.
It is vitally important that all colleagues understand and adhere to the policies and procedures relating to personal protection and social distancing including, what personal protection equipment should be worn, what cleaning regimes should be in place, what social distancing protocols should be observed in both customer-facing and back-of-house areas.
Over the next 24hr sites will be asked to audit compliance to the measures put in place by their specific trading group. Each group will send out a compliance checklist. A further update will be provided on this tomorrow.
