Mark Redgrave, Utilities Team Leader, applied to the Doing Good Together Fund to help finance a community sports festival. Here’s his experience of using the fund and the difference it made.
Mark, who was the funding for and what’s your connection to the community group?
I applied on behalf of Kenilworth Wardens, a group providing community football and cricket for children and adults in the Kenilworth area. I’ve been volunteering with the club for many years, originally helping out with training and matchdays before coaching a team and now providing admin support.
Why did you apply for Doing Good Together funding?
Kenilworth Wardens Juniors is going through big changes and needs to raise funds to stay active and improve facilities. To help with fundraising, the club put on a festival on 5th May for the young people involved with the club. The funding was used to buy event materials, including barriers and signage, to help the day go off safely and successfully.
Amazing! How did the event go?
The festival was a huge success with over 2,700 people attending. We have received many compliments about how well the event was organised and delivered, and the Doing Good Together Fund was a major factor in enabling us to deliver the event.
The funds we raised through the event will be used to buy items that will enable us to provide football to the Juniors for many years to come. The money will also be channelled into developing girls’ and ladies’ teams as well as disability football opportunities.

How did you find the Doing Good Together Fund application process?
The application process was easy to follow, and the Community Team were exceptional in the support they provided throughout the application process. Although we had initially hoped to apply for more, we were still incredibly grateful to receive £250, which was the maximum allocation for groups in that trading area. The funding made a significant and much-appreciated difference.

Would you recommend the fund to other colleagues?
Absolutely, it really helped us make the festival the success that it was and I’m sure the funding could make a difference to community groups near you too.
