To mark World Environment Day today (Thursday 5th June), we wanted to share an exciting update on our partnership with Big Solar Co-op, the not-for-profit organisation which aims to solarise UK businesses and buildings, which is helping us to reduce our carbon footprint.
The latest phase in our partnership has seen 67 solar panels installed by the Big Solar Co-op on our Ashby Road Your Co-op Food store in Daventry, Northamptonshire. The move will generate more than 30,000 kilowatt hours of energy each year, reducing CO2 emissions by over six tonnes each annum.
The solar panels form part of our wider sustainability strategy of reducing our Greenhouse Gas emissions by 50% by 2027, and we plan to install solar panels on a range of further sites throughout the year.

Alongside our Ashby Road store, Your Co-op Food Copthorne and our head offices in Warwick have also been solarised in the last 12 months, with over 360 solar panels installed. In total, this produces more than 130,000 kilowatt hours of energy each year and saves over 26 tonnes of CO2 in the process.
Sustainability is a key principle for us in our member-led strategy and we are proud to share this great progress with you. But, we know there’s always more we can be doing and we’re looking forward to keeping you updated on further news with Big Solar Co-op and other progress on our sustainability journey.

Our Society’s Sustainability Steering Group continue to drive forward our sustainability strategy, and if you have any ideas you wish to share to help with this activity, please reach out to your Group’s Sustainability Steering Group representative.
