This year we are marking 25 years of the Fairtrade logo so Fairtrade Fortnight promises to be a real celebration! Fairtrade Fortnight will run from Monday 24 February - Sunday 8 March 2020 so please save the date.
For two weeks each year, Fairtrade Fortnight brings together thousands of individuals, companies and groups from across the UK to share the stories of the people who grow our food and drinks and are often exploited and underpaid.
What’s the theme this year?
The focus of Fairtrade Fortnight this year will again be on the people - in particular the women - who grow the cocoa in our chocolate. £1.86 is the amount a cocoa farmer in West Africa needs to earn each day in order to achieve a living income. Currently, a typical cocoa farmer in Cote d’Ivoire lives on around 74p a day. As a result, almost all cocoa farmers in West Africa live in poverty. Midcounties will again be playing our part promoting Fairtrade Fortnight across our Food stores and other retail sites, putting on events for colleagues and engaging our members and community partners.
How can I help?
To help us promote Fairtrade we would like you to take part in our 1Change campaign. This means swapping one product in your weekly shop for a Fairtrade one during Fairtrade Fortnight.
More information including how to register your pledge will follow soon.
