Want to know more about what the Society is doing to help protect the bees? Take a look inside our head office beehives and find out what it takes to run our onsite apiary by joining this un-bee-lievable member event.
Did you know that we have two beehives at our head office in Warwick?
We introduced the hives in 2018 to actively support and protect the bees. The hives’ queen bees even have names: Georgia and Jasmine.
If you’d like to find out more about our beehives, join our Head Beekeeper, Lee Franklin, (you may also know him as our Member Benefits Manager!) for an informal online members’ event on Monday 26th July from 5.30-6.30pm.
The session will feature behind-the-scenes video footage of our beehives, facts about our fuzzy friends and how to keep them, a bee Q&A, and insights into what’s really involved in beekeeping.
Topics covered
The three topics the session will cover are:

How You Can Help
Meet Lee
Head Beekeeper, Lee Franklin has seven years of beekeeping experience and has set up apiaries for two different co-operative societies. He’s a member of the Warwick and Leamington Beekeepers association and is registered with BBKA.
Meet Barry
Dr Barry Meatyard, local beekeeper and member of the Warwick and Leamington Beekeepers Association, will also be taking part in the event. Barry has over 30 years of beekeeping experience and is the branch’s Education Co-ordinator, regularly lecturing to universities, schools and clubs.
He says, “I am delighted to be assisting with The Midcounties Co-op’s beekeeping venture as part of raising awareness of the importance of bees and the maintenance of healthy (and productive) colonies.”
