We’re glad to announce that our members and customers helped raise an incredible £20,000 for our Food bank partners over Christmas. A big thank you to everyone, especially our colleagues who helped make this possible to support our local communities.
Supporting the most in need
For the 2022 Christmas Food Bank campaign, we aimed to raise awareness in our food stores of the growing demand on food banks within local communities due to the increases in the cost of living that so many households have been experiencing.
Thanks to our members, customers and the work of our store colleagues, we have received more than £20,000 in cash donations to this year’s Food bank fund, with this money currently being shared equally amongst our 61 food bank partners. An incredible achievement. This is in addition to the thousands of items of food and household products that have been dropped off in our collection points in-store over the festive period.
Why it’s so important
Our local food banks rely heavily on customer donations to help the most vulnerable in our communities and we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone in-store who helped during the Christmas campaign. We understand there’s so much great work that takes place in-store all year round and many Midcounties colleagues also use their volunteering hours to help out at their local food bank.
Too Good to Go helps too
All of our Food stores work with the Too Good to Go app, to sell discounted ‘magic bags’ of food to customers that would otherwise go to waste. A fantastic initiative that many retailers now get involved in.
During the festive period between November and December, the stores produced 3,721 magic bags via the Too Good to Go app, saving approximately 9.3 tonnes of food while feeding many households.
