Recognising long service – Ben Lovett’s 20 years at Midcounties

For each key milestone of your service at Midcounties, we recognise and reward you for your hard work and commitment. Today we catch up with Ben Lovett from Your Co-op Travel who recently achieved his 20-year service. Have a read of his Q&A below.

What did you do when you first joined Midcounties / have you always worked in Travel?

I first joined the business, when it was called West Midlands Co-op, in 1997. I can’t believe that was nearly 25 years ago! I was employed as a Trainee Travel Advisor, a role I held for three years. I left my position to work abroad for a few years, but I returned to the business, now called Midcounties Co-op when I came back to the UK in 2002. Apart from a short stint working in a bar in Spain and then a telemarketing officer I have always worked in travel.

Why do you love working here/ what do you most enjoy about Midcounties and your job role?

I love that Midcounties recognises everyone individually and equally. I hear of so many large organisations who treat their employees as numbers and I have never felt that to be the case here.

I enjoy working closely with our great team, as well as Account Managers across the travel industry, to identify opportunities for improved performance and to implement activities to grow enquiries and sales.

Where do you see yourself progressing to?

I am really looking forward to being involved in the bounce-back of travel following the pandemic. It has been a rollercoaster of experiences over the last few years but I’m really positive about the future and all of the opportunities that it presents for the Travel group, other Your Co-op brands and me, personally.

What will you be doing with your long service award?

I am going to put my long service vouchers towards a holiday now that travel is back up and running! I can’t wait for a sunshine holiday after two years without one!
