With Remembrance next month, The Royal British Legion is one of our main national fundraising partners alongside our Regional Community Areas and Your Community Sites. Doing good together, we're proud to support the Annual Poppy Appeal and encourage all sites to get involved.
How do we support the Royal British Legion?
Our Food Markets and Supermarkets can offer local Royal British Legion collectors slots in-store to collect during the campaign duration of 22nd October to 14th November. Please help and support any Royal British Legion collectors if they are in your stores/branches.
How were we involved at the time?
At the time of World War I & II, there were a number of Co-operative Societies operating across our trading areas that had colleagues who went to the front and did not come back.
These were people like us, working in our stores and sites, for families and loved ones while serving the country bravely.
To commemorate, many of our trading areas will put up displays in their windows and will be laying wreaths at local war memorials.
After the wars, Co-ops retrained staff and took on disabled servicemen, accommodating them in different roles if required.
