Hi, I'm Amelia, Community Renewables Engagement Lead at Younity! Younity is our joint venture with Octopus Energy focused on all things community energy and so far in 2023, we've had a busy few months. Check out what we've been getting up to…
First up, an exciting milestone for Connect - our volunteering platform connecting skilled volunteers to community energy groups across the UK… we now have 100 members!

What is community energy? It's when the profits from sunshine, wind and water are invested in community-based solutions.
Rewinding to September, we joined Community Energy England to host their annual summer conference. We had lots of fun networking with groups and introducing our new team member, Ewan, to the community energy world!

With our aim of empowering communities, we've recently allocated £15k through our Powering Communities Fund to support some incredible projects. These include; developing 'A Sensory Story of Energy' to educate students with additional learning needs, creating a creative energy club, installing solar panels on a memorial hall and more! This fund directly helps to amplify the impact of community energy and therefore, takes a step towards a greener, fairer world.
That’s not all! Alongside attending Co-operative UK’s Hackathon, we’ve brought community energy to many different events across the world, from the Global Innovation Co-op Summit in Montreal to the UK’s largest renewable energy exhibition. As well as this, we've also been getting stuck in at local events across the country – all catalysing the community energy discussion.
