Supporting Food Banks

The Society is committed to actively supporting food banks across the communities in which it operates, helping to combat food poverty and support those most in need.

Food banks play a vital role within local communities, not only by providing access to essential food supplies but also by offering advice and signposting to wider support services for vulnerable individuals and families.

Throughout the year, we host food bank awareness days at key locations, providing our local food bank partners with opportunities to engage directly with the community. These events help raise awareness of available support, encourage donations and volunteering, and create space for meaningful conversations. They also ensure that individuals who may need assistance, but are unsure where to turn, can access information and guidance in a welcoming environment.

Within all our food sites there are collection points for colleagues, members and customers to make a donation. In addition, we sell a specific food bank bag with the profits from these being donated directly to the local food bank. Cash donations can also be made at tills (via PLU 7005).

The payments of the food bank donations and proceeds from the sale of the food bank bags are made twice a year.

Site Managers are responsible for managing the partnership relationships and for put local arrangements in place for the collection of donations. The contact details of the food bank partner should be displayed at sites so that all colleagues are aware.  If there are any changes to food bank partner details these should be forwarded to the community team community.team@midcounties.coop preventing any delays in making payments to them as required.
