Supporting Local Schools

We're always looking for ways to add value to the schools in our local communities – the children in our communities our co-operators for the future.

There are different ways in which we can support schools, including offering work experience, supporting school assemblies, volunteering at events, using our sites as a classroom or to help with their fundraising.

If you are contacted by a school and don’t know how to assist, please contact the Community Team.

Stores as classrooms

Many of our larger food stores offer local primary schools the opportunity to use the store as an extension of the classroom. By bringing learning into a real-world environment, pupils can engage in experiential learning that brings lessons to life. Teachers consistently highlight the value of this approach, noting that learning through experience provides a distinctive and highly effective educational method. During the primary years in particular, experiential learning enables children to interact with subject matter in a hands-on, meaningful way, supporting deeper understanding and improved retention of new concepts.

We are fully supportive of using our stores in this way. Opportunities could include Fairtrade product treasure hunts, maths or geography-based activities, or even using the store as a public gallery to display pupils’ artwork or to host school competitions. These initiatives help strengthen links between schools and the local community while creating engaging and memorable learning experiences for young people.

Find  below a few resources that could be used below, but if you are asked to support your local school in this way and want some advice please reach out to the community team at community.team@midcounties.coop
