Head into your local store to see the seasonal produce on offer
Going BIG on British produce
Warmer weather and longer days are upon us, fingers crossed Summer is here!
British produce really does come into its own during this time.
We work closely with our produce partner Mudwalls Farm to ensure we have the very best seasonal offering. Mudwalls have expansive passion and experience, so they know that their produce is fresh, sustainable and full of flavour.
British Asparagus has hit our stores, as we are amongst the first retailers to stock it! The seasonal window is narrow from April to around June time. Beautifully tender, sweet with and underlying mild earthy taste. To top it all of British Asparagus has a plethora of health accolades including high levels of vitamins A and C, calcium, iron and potassium!
Simply drizzle with rapeseed oil, season and roast for approximately 10 minutes. Or, pair with Cotswold Hollandaise Sauce, poached Cacklebean Free Range Eggs, and Severn & Wye Smoked Salmon for a Best of Our Counties Breakfast.
How about dessert? Sumptuously sweet, home-grown British Strawberries have also started landing in our stores. A superior product to the foreign-sourced counterpart and locally grown in Herefordshire. Why not pair them with Jess’s Ladies Organic Double Cream and Cotswold Meringues for your locally inspired Eton Mess.
The Benefits of Buying Local
There is a number of benefits to shopping local which we support through the Best of our Counties ranges:
-
Local products are higher quality and more nutritious. Taking fresh produce as an example, the time from farm to consumer is considerably shorter, reducing the degradation of nutrients and taste.
-
Local products are more environmentally friendly. The distance travelled for local products from farm to store is also much shorter. Multiple factors contribute to a reduction in CO2 such as reduced food miles.
-
Buying local is an investment in your community. By supporting your local farmers and producers, money you spend is retained in the local community, ensuring future food security.
-
Buying local also means that our customers know exactly where their food comes from and how it has been produced, providing peace of mind and assurance that it is of the highest quality in addition to being sustainably sourced.
