The seasons have changed, and Spring has definitely sprung! Daffodils, lambs and new growth appear around us as well as the arrival of delicious seasonal produce available in our Food stores. 🌷
As the weather changes across the country so do the fresh produce available in farmers markets, shops & stores. Each season offers an array of fresh produce & it’s a great time to start experimenting, trying new recipes or reworking those old ones to incorporate more seasonal fruits and vegetables. Not only will your palate be impressed but you are also continuing to support the numerous Best of Our Counties growers & producers across our trading regions.
Reasons to Buy Local
-
It tastes better! Why? Because it's fresher, recently harvested & hasn’t travelled hundreds of miles or sat in a chiller for a long period of time. ❄
-
Healthier & higher in nutritional value as consumed at its freshest before the natural deterioration & decline commences. 👌
-
Eating seasonally reduces the demand for out of season produce meaningless transportation, less refrigeration & more environmentally friendly. 🌍
-
You are supporting your local community & a system where local people can engage & support farmers in their area, hence helping the local economy to survive & thrive. 👩🌾
-
Finally, via our buying habits, we can choose to support local food production, educate young people and the balance supporting nature & people in our community. Winning in all ways! 👪
Seasonal Produce
Asparagus is a traditional Spring favourite & is the “Welcome to Spring “signpost to the start of the British growing season.
One of the simplest, most delicious ways to cook asparagus is to roast it in a medium oven. Yum!
-
Simply drizzle with rapeseed oil, season roast for approximately 10 minutes.
-
Squeeze with lemon juice, serve with butter or parmesan a perfect accompaniment to your boiled eggs in the morning or your supper offering.
