Switch off for Earth Hour – 8.30-9.30pm – Saturday 25th March
To take part, just switch off your household lights, unplug your TV, radio or appliances for one hour. Then, light some candles and do something different. You could read a book, have a meal by candlelight or even take a walk and stargaze! Pick one of the great tips from the WWF below.
1. Switch off your lights
This is the DNA of the Earth Hour movement and the easiest way to participate in this Earth Hour. Simply switch off all non-essential lights for an hour!
2. Dinner-in-the-dark
Get some candles ready and whip up a healthy and delicious meal.
3. Have a night of board games or book readings in candle-light
Note: The Earth Hour team will not be held responsible for any friendships ruined by a game of Monopoly 😇
4. Camp in your backyard or living room
If you love the adventure of camping outdoors, we challenge you to turn your back garden or living room into your very own camping space! Don’t have an actual tent? Why not make one with bedsheets, pillows, and other household items!

Grab a pair of headphones and groove to your own favourite music! Take it up a notch by battling it out with your family and friends in a silent disco and claim dance floor supremacy.
10. Acoustic jam session
Unleash the Ed Sheeran or Beyonce in you and sing the night away with your friends and family! For all you shower singers out there - this is your chance to shine!

Clocks going forward at 1am – 26th March 🕐
Don’t forget this weekend sees the clocks changing to bring brighter and longer days into the Spring and Summer seasons. In the UK, the clocks go forward 1 hour at 1am on the last Sunday in March, and back 1 hour at 2am on the last Sunday in October. There’s an easy phrase you can remember to make sure you’re on top of the clock changes; ‘spring forward, fall back’ - meaning the clocks go forward in the spring, and back in the fall (autumn).
Why not share your ‘brighter days’ pictures on Thumbs Up? 👍
With the days becoming brighter for longer, this gives us all an opportunity to get out more. Whether that’s for more walks, exercise or taking pictures of the beautiful wildlife and scenery. Share some of your snaps to thumbsup@midcounties.coop
