Colleague Sign Language Training with GDA & Zebra Access

Last month, we teamed up with Gloucestershire Deaf Association (GDA) & Zebra Access for a colleague sign language session, learning key signs and exploring communication barriers. A great example of doing good together, watch the exclusive update below.

Gloucestershire Deaf Association (GDA) – Forest of Dean RC partner
They provide vital practical and emotional support to children, young people and adults living in Gloucestershire who are deaf, hard of hearing or deafened.
The services provided aim to enable a person to live confidently with their deafness, be that in their own home, socially or at work. The charity provides support with hearing aids and specialist listening-aid equipment, to employment support and one-to-one advocacy for British Sign Language users.

Zebra Access - Wolverhampton RC partner
A deaf-led charity that aims to create better opportunities for deaf, deafblind, and hard-of-hearing people by providing access to a range of confidence-building activities.
The group aims to provide deaf role models, enabling self-belief in deaf and hard-of-hearing people and generating confidence in their ability to achieve their aspirations by breaking down barriers. They offer training and workshops to improve life skills. Zebra Access also aims to promote and advocate healthier lifestyles by raising and improving awareness of available activities and other health choices.

Society wide we now have Recite Me on our careers website, which helps people with hearing impairments as well as visual impairments, and neurodiversity apply for jobs with us.

A British Sign Language course is available on i.Learn for all colleagues to take (search 'sign language').

All colleague videos are subtitled.

Our formal meetings now have sign language interpreters supporting the meetings.
