On Data Protection Day we are celebrating two of our Data Protection Champions who picked up awards for demonstrating excellence and innovation in data management.
Today is Data Protection Day, which raises awareness worldwide of the challenges of data protection and informs people about their rights.
It seemed like the perfect opportunity to remind colleagues of our data protection activity and to recognise some of our outstanding colleagues working in this area.
Data Protection Champions (DPCs)
At Midcounties we have a team of 28 amazing DPCs working across the Society to make sure data across the Society is managed correctly.
The champions come together regularly to share best practice and for training on the latest developments.

Data Protection Champion of the Year
Nicola Parsons from Food Retail
Congratulations to Nicola who received the award in recognition of her leadership and energy in helping to ensure high standards of data protection compliance in our largest trading business.
Best Innovation of the Year
Sheridan Hindle from IT
Sheridan received this award for his work in introducing new policy and guidance to make it easier for colleagues to share data securely. He was also recognised for his commitment to identifying innovative technology and systems solutions to strengthen data security.
Sean McGovern, Head of Legal Services and the Society’s Data Protection Officer said,
“As a co-operative Society, our colleagues and members are at the heart of all we do and it is really important that we safeguard their personal data. We have a fantastic group of data protection champions across our businesses who promote best practice and minimise the risk of data breaches. Nicola and Sheridan’s efforts this year stood out and were rightly celebrated in our inaugural data protection awards – well done Nicola, Sheridan and all our data protection champions.”
