As some colleagues may know already, we have partnered with the Big Solar Co-op, a not-for-profit organisation which aims to solarise UK businesses and buildings, to help reduce our carbon footprint.
Over the Christmas period, our Your Co-op Food store in Copthorne, Shropshire, had 162 solar panels installed by the Big Solar Co-op which will generate 58,000 kilowatt hours each year – equating to 19% of the store’s energy needs and a reduction in CO2 emissions of over 12 tonnes per year.
The solar panels form part of our wider sustainability strategy of reducing our Greenhouse Gas emissions by 40% by 2026, and we plan to install solar panels on a range of further sites throughout the year.
Alongside the Copthorne store, our head offices in Warwick have also been solarised by the Big Solar Co-op with 141 panels installed last summer.

We know how much sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint means to our colleagues, members and customers and we are looking forward to keeping you updated with everything we do over the coming months to help us on our sustainability journey.
