This week, I would like to start with a thank you to everyone who supported in making this year’s Fairer Living Festival & AGM a success, it was a brilliant day. I‘ve recorded a special thank you message that also has some highlights of the day, so have a watch below.
It was great to start the week with some positive news regarding Food sales with the biggest favourable performance of the year against the budget and with several stores experiencing record sales including Areley Kings, Brize Meadows and Twigworth and fantastic like-for-like sales up 18% in Long Hanborough. Let’s keep up the great work as we head into a busy summer of sport.
Out and about – refitting our stores to combat retail crime
Getting out and about, last Friday I visited two of our Walsall Food Stores, Fullbrook and Lichfield Road as part of National Shopkind awareness week. Continuing the conversation, I joined our Society President, Heather Richardson, as well as the Safer Stores and Senior Food teams in visiting two high risk stores that recently completed high risk refits.
The refits included investment in re-merchandising the store to protect stock from offenders as well as listening to colleagues by making it easier for them to be present on the shop floor with added hardware features. So far, feedback has been really positive with a reduction in incidents and some positive colleague feedback. It’s great to hear as we continue to combat retail crime.

Let’s talk more - Highlighting colleagues mental health & wellbeing
With it being Mental Health Awareness Week, on Monday I sat down with Smara Shaukat, Reward & Wellbeing Manager to take part in an engaging conversations session. A really positive chat on what’s being done to improve colleague wellbeing at work, we also discussed future plans and my own top tips. Let’s keep talking to continue creating a positive environment for all colleagues! Have a watch below.
