Even Santa is in awe of the amazing NHS staff and volunteers working tirelessly to keep us safe this Christmas. Helping to raise more vital funds for the NHS Charities Together Covid Appeal, today the charity launches their national campaign with upcoming support from our Society.
Who are NHS Charities Together?
NHS Charities Together is the umbrella organisation that brings together all the official charities of the NHS. Earlier this year in response to the COVID-19 emergency, NHS Charities Together launched an urgent appeal to support NHS staff and volunteers in challenging times.
You might have already heard of the name before, the charity is supported by Sir Captain Tom Moore, who earlier this year, walked 100 laps of his garden to help raise and incredible £32 Million for the NHS.
The money raised by the latest campaign will be distributed to NHS charities across the UK, who will use it to provide whatever support will make the biggest difference for the staff, volunteers and patients. That could include providing hot meals and a place to rest for staff working long hours and specialised psychological support for those struggling with stress, trauma and separation from their loved ones. The funds will also go to help vital partnerships outside hospitals, such as hospices, community healthcare and social care so they can provide care to patients, volunteers and staff outside of the hospital.
How are we involved?
We have committed to donate £1 from every Festive Christmas flowers bouquet that is purchased. The flowers will be available in most stores from the 18th December. Collaborating alongside many other major brands such as Starbucks, Swarovski, John Lewis and our fellow Independent Co-operatives, the donation will go towards so many in need during the festive period.
As mentioned on BBC Breakfast and ITV’s Lorraine, they have released a very special video which will be televised nationally. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can watch it below:
The film, made with guidance from NHS professionals, is part of a wider campaign encouraging the public to buy gifts that give back to those who have given everything, in recognition of the amazing commitment of NHS staff during the Covid crisis.
The proceeds will go to NHS charities across the UK this Christmas so they can provide more much-needed support to NHS staff, volunteers and patients.
Pete Westall, our Chief Values Officer added: “Throughout the pandemic, we’ve all been inspired and humbled by the remarkable efforts of our NHS workers, and we know that they continue to face up to incredible challenges on a daily basis.
In recent months we have supported NHS workers through our Heroes fund with childcare provision and as we approach Christmas, we know that our members, customers and colleagues, will want to continue to show their appreciation and that’s why we’re proud to support the NHS Together campaign.”
