Devastating floods have hit Pakistan, submerging vast areas of land and leaving 6 million people in need of urgent help.
According to the government of Pakistan, a third of the country - equivalent to an area the size of the UK - is underwater, in what the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has called a "climate catastrophe".
At Midcounties, we’re proud to support the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC)’s Pakistan Floods Appeal. DEC charities are responding, either directly or through local partners, and have been among those helping to save lives and provide emergency relief. But they urgently need funds to reach more people, particularly with conditions expected to worsen.
The immediate priorities are providing temporary shelter, emergency food support and clean drinking water. DEC charities are coordinating closely with the local authorities and UN agencies to help in ways that best address the needs of those affected. You can find out more about the appeal here or watch the appeal video here.
We will be writing to all members, making them aware of the appeal, and it will be promoted within our trading sites and on our digital channels, encouraging donations to the appeal.
If you wish to support this appeal you can donate either in-store or online.
By donating to the Pakistan Floods Appeal, you'll help DEC charities deliver life-saving aid.
Every pound donated by the UK public will be matched by the UK government through its Aid Match scheme up to the value of £5 million. This support will double the impact of donations and will ensure that charities working on the ground can reach those in urgent need.
