To mark Food Waste Action Week, we are proud to share our success over the past five years, none of which would have been possible without the support of our colleagues.

Many of you will know that we’ve been working hard to reduce food waste across our food stores, achieving a 25% reduction since 2019—preventing over 740,000 food waste items from going to waste!
This has been made possible through improvements to our operational processes, our partnership with Too Good to Go, and collaboration with Olio – an app designed to help local businesses and people fight waste and give people in local communities access to free food and other items.
What started as a four-week trial across 10 food stores has grown to now cover 150 stores and our Warwick head office. Since we started work with Olio in July 2024, we have helped divert over 60,000 food items to feed 1,000 households in need. A recent user expressed their gratitude saying:
"We loved our collection! We were able to cook a nutritious meal with the mushrooms and garlic. They went perfectly with the soup we had at home. We’re so grateful for this, especially as we’ve had to cut back on our bills."
Additionally, we have continued our long-standing partnership with Too Good To Go, where customers across all our food stores can pick up ‘Magic Bags’ for £3.33, which contain at least £10 worth or more of surplus food.
But we’re not stopping there and we’re committed to reducing our food waste further over the coming years. A huge thank you to all our colleagues who play a role in making this happen—we couldn’t do it without you!
