This Sunday 29th September is the World Heart Federation’s World Heart Day. We wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate the incredible work being done by colleagues to help with the installation of defibrillators in the communities we serve.
Doing good together, in total, we have installed 45 defibrillators at stores across the region, with a further two sets to be installed in the next couple of weeks.
Many of our defibrillators have been made possible due to the remarkable fundraising efforts completed by colleagues in 2022, which saw over £40,000 raised to help with the installation of 38 defibrillators.
To date, these have, sadly, been used 42 times which shows how crucial a piece of equipment they are and the impact that they are already making within our communities.
Every day’s a school day
We have partnered with the Community Heartbeat Trust now for many years and we are pleased that we will be working with them to deliver their Community Awareness Raising Seminar (CARS) at regular times throughout the year. The virtual session will cover the basics of understanding what a cardiac arrest is and how to recognise when someone is experiencing one, explaining what a defibrillator is and how to use one alongside utilising correct chest compression technique.
Find out more about the importance of the seminars by watching our Defibrillator Awareness Session update at our Warwick Head Office.
Looking after your heart
According to the British Heart Foundation, every 3 minutes someone in the UK dies from a heart or circulatory disease, so it really is essential to take care of your ticker.
By taking a few simple steps each day, you can improve the health of your heart…
-
Cut down on caffeine and alcohol (drink no more than 14 units per week)
-
Quit smoking
-
Exercise for at least 150 minutes a week
