Carers Week, helping those that are helping others

This week it’s Carers Week, taking place between 8^th-14^th it’s all about raising voices together and helping to make caring visible across the UK.

At Midcounties, through our regional communities, we have long-standing and active relationships with some truly fantastic organisations and groups and one of them is Gloucestershire Young Carers based in our Forest of Dean regional community.

Earlier this year the Forest of Dean Regional Community organised a Snazzy Socks and Specs fundraiser for their charity partner Gloucestershire Young Carers

Like many other charitable organisations, Gloucester Young Carers have been massively affected by the Covid-19 outbreak due to lack of funding and personnel to provide support. However, we’ve been able to help support then with £1,000 through our Community Restart Funding programme.

With our donated funds, they have been able to purchase additional laptops and computers making it possible to deliver online interactive sessions for young carers.

This has been a lifeline for a number of young people in the current circumstances. The interactive online sessions mean that young people can meet up (remotely) with their friends as well as new ones to have some full-filled time out.

This is just one of the many things that our Community Restart programme has enabled charities and organisations to achieve.

Keeping safe when out and about – Co-op Pharmacy

At Co-op Pharmacy they have just launched their healthcare essentials here, which includes disposable face masks and combi kits with hand sanitisers and gloves making it simple to get all you need for when you’re on the move. Supporting 1Change – World Environment Day

Last week we celebrated World Environment Day by premiering our World Environment Day video on YouTube. This was the first time we facilitated a digital member discussion through the platform and over the last few days we have received over 166 views on the video and 67 1Change submissions!

Don’t worry you can still get involved if you haven’t already. We encourage you to provide us with the 1Change you would like us to make to further defend the environment.

From here our Environmental Steering Group will review all feedback and select opportunities for us to implement into our business operations where possible.
