I am pleased to update you on the progress of our 2023 pay review following our discussions with USDAW last week.
Both Usdaw and your Society recognise the increasing cost of living that you as colleagues are currently experiencing as well as the challenge that all businesses, including ours, are facing with increased inflation and high energy costs and uncertainty over the future economic outlook.
The offer that we have made is as follows:
-
A minimum rate of pay for all hourly rate colleagues on career framework Level 2 (EYA/Cleaners/Kitchen Assistants/Apprentices/Trainee Travel Advisor) of £10.45 (7.7% increase) effective from 1st April 2023
-
Overall Increase of 9.5% for all hourly rate colleagues anchored to National Minimum Wage (NMW) level 3 and above maintaining a differential to NMW, minimum rate of £10.48 effective from 1st April and £10.62 effective from 3rd December 2023
This means that over half of our colleagues will receive an average of 9.5% increase over the course of the year.
Our remaining colleagues will receive an investment of up to 4.5% increase depending on their position against their recognised pay band and the market data we have for their roles.
We hope this offer, set against another really difficult trading year for our Society, demonstrates our ongoing commitment and pledge to maintain a differential to NMW and to continuously improve the pay of our colleagues.
Whilst this falls short of what Usdaw were looking for this is the best that could be achieved given the Society’s trading challenges.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank our Union reps and our partners in Usdaw for their ongoing support over the last year in working with the Society to benefit our colleagues.
Usdaw will complete the ballot electronically and will be contacting members directly by email. If you have not recently provided the Society with an up-to-date email address, it is advisable that you contact Usdaw directly on 0161 224 2804 or via email records@usdaw.org.uk to update your personal contact details.
As soon as I have the response from the ballot, I will confirm the outcome to you.
Thank you again for all the hard work you do on behalf of the Society.
