Walking challenges raise £4k for Regional Communities

This summer, three of our Regional Communities teams have donned their trainers and walked huge distances to raise money for their charity partners. Go team – that’s how we do good together!
Teams of remarkable colleagues from Cheltenham & Gloucester, Stroud and Wyre Forest Regional Communities have walked a combined total of almost 20 miles in the last few months to raise almost £4,000 for their charity partners.
Food Operations Manager Jon Little joined 12 other colleagues from Food and Travel branches in Cheltenham and Gloucester in walking nine and a half miles to raise money for Cheltenham Open Door, who provide food and support for local people in need. He says:
“We walked from Barnwood Food Store to Open Door Donation Hub in support of our Charity Partner. Before the walk, the store teams and colleagues who were walking raised money via different events in store but also by being sponsored. We aimed to achieve £2,000 for the charity and we successfully achieved our goal of raising the funds. Everyone really enjoyed the day and was great to see the donations hub for the first time.”

Meanwhile, the Stroud Regional Community team took on a sponsored walk alongside colleagues from their charity partner, Stroud Valleys Project. The seven-mile walk took in a number of the nature-based projects that Stroud Valleys are working on and included a trip to their charity shop in Stroud town centre. The walk raised a wonderful £800.

The Wyre Forest Regional Community’s sponsored five-and-a-half-kilometre walk (3.4 miles) took place on 16th May and over 30 colleagues and charity partner colleagues took part. The walk raised a fabulous £1,174 for Wyre Forest Nightstop, which provides emergency accommodation for young people in the area.
