As part of Young Carers Action Day, today we focus on our charity partner Walsall Young Carers.
We had the chance to visit the partner last December and caught up with young carer, Richard. He explains his story and how Midcounties helps to provide invaluable opportunities for all young carers. Watch the incredible video below:
What is Young Carers Action Day?
Each year the Carers Trust host this important day to raise public awareness of the challenges faced by young people because of their caring role, and to campaign for greater support for young carers and their needs.
Every day across the UK thousands of young people help to look after someone in their family, or a friend, who is ill, disabled or misuses drugs or alcohol.
As you may already know, at Midcounties we support a number of charities in our regional communities raising vital funds for our partners in need. We are involved in volunteering, fundraising and a whole host of community projects being passionate about making a difference to local people!
How else have we been involved?
-
A dedicated Mind mental health session hosted by Paol Stuart-Thomson where the young carers got to meet each other and make new friends.
-
A community litter pick followed by pizza, snacks and a film in the Waterfront office in Walsall.
-
A trip to Drayton Manor Theme Park for the Young Carers; with our colleagues who volunteered their time to help out on the day.
