Work Experience:
Co-operators of the Future
Young people are our future consumers, co-operators and colleagues; therefore we strive to build strong, long-term relationships with local schools and youth projects in our communities.

Our Work Experience Programme
Work experience is an essential component of a student's education. It not only equips them with practical skills and knowledge but also significantly boosts their employability and prepares them for successful careers. Engaging in work experience during their studies can provide students with a competitive edge in the job market and help them build a solid foundation for their future professional endeavors.
The Society is proud to offer work experience to students aged 14-24 in full time education. Applications for work experience placements can be made via our website and you can see that here: Work Experience. Please make sure any students requesting work experience are advised of the need to make a formal application. This makes sure we are compliant from a health and safety point of view and that site managers get the support required to make the experience the best it can be.
Key Benefits of Work Experience
Skill Development: Work experience allows students to develop both hard and soft skills that are essential in the workplace. These include communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and time management skills, which are highly valued by employers.
Enhanced Employability: Many employers prioritise candidates with relevant work experience. According to studies, a significant percentage of employers consider work experience as critical when recruiting young people. This experience can make a student's CV stand out and improve their chances of securing internships or jobs after graduation.
Real-World Exposure: Engaging in work experience helps students transition from the academic environment to the professional world. It provides a glimpse into the realities of working life, helping students understand workplace dynamics and expectations.
Career Exploration: Work experience offers students the opportunity to explore different career paths and industries. This exposure can help them make informed decisions about their future careers, especially if they are uncertain about their interests.
Networking Opportunities: Building professional relationships during work experience can lead to valuable connections. Networking can open doors to future job opportunities and mentorship, which can be beneficial for career advancement.
Application of Classroom Learning: Work experience allows students to apply theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom to real-world situations. This practical application reinforces their learning and enhances their understanding of the subject matter.
Managers and store Colleagues play a huge part in making sure any work experience is the best and most valuable it can be for students.
The Managers guide below will hopefully make it easier for you to navigate the whole process and explain your responsibilities. Please print this off and read it as you will find there are a few things you need to do or arrange before the student starts their work experience with you.
